2015: Increase in Dutch holiday-goers choosing to vacation in autumn
5 November 2015Most holiday-makers, around 750,000, are expected to remain in the Netherlands, but around 650,000 are expected to go abroad for what’s often a short-stay vacation. Belgium, Germany and France are the most popular short-stay destinations.
For a short escape to the sun, travellers tend to choose Spain, Italy and Portugal. A ‘staycation’ in the Netherlands is often complemented with accommodation in a more luxurious holiday home. That goes for more than 40 percent of domestic holidays.
How do the Dutch like to spend their autumn holidays? By hiking, biking, visiting a museum or spending the day at an amusement park.
