Delta expands pre-select meal programme to Delta One from Amsterdam

28 September 2018

Following rave customer reviews, Delta has expanded its popular pre-select meal programme to give Delta One customers flying from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport the ability to choose their meal on all U.S.-bound services. The move follows a trial period on select routes from the United States, including Amsterdam, where the pre-select service proved so popular it has now been extended to more than 100 markets around the globe.

Delta will email customers three days before their flight, asking them to select their preferred meal from the latest seasonal, regionally-influenced menu. The pre-select option ensures customers flying In Delta One will enjoy their first choice every time, to and from the U.S.

“Customers continue to tell us how much they value having control over their in-flight experience,” said Lisa Bauer, Delta’s Vice President – On-Board Services. “Giving more customers the ability to choose their meal in advance is yet another way we’re elevating the onboard experience based on direct feedback.”

Delta One customers flying from the airline’s hubs in Paris-Charles de Gaulle and London Heathrow will also be able to pre-select their meals on flights to the United States.

Delta’s seasonally-inspired menus feature culinary creations by Delta’s in-house culinary team or the airline’s partner chefs – like James Beard honoree Linton Hopkins out of Atlanta, select chefs from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group out of New York, and chef duo Jonny Shook and Vinny Dotolo out of Los Angeles.

Meals are complemented by a selection of wines curated by Master Sommelier, Andrea Robinson. Andrea’s autumn wine menu includes vintages such as Monte Real Reserva Tempranillo 2012 and Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc-Viognier 2016.

This expansion is part of Delta’s multi-billion dollar investment in the overall customer experience. In the past several years, the airline has made significant enhancements to the Main Cabin experience including free Main Cabin meals on select coast-to-coast routes, free mobile messaging, free in-flight entertainment, upgraded Main Cabin snacks, the addition of sparkling wine, access to Wi-Fi on nearly all flights, enhanced blankets and refreshed Flight Fuel food-for-purchase options. Recent upgrades to the Delta One in-flight experience include new chef-designed Delta One menus curated by Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo for flights from LAX, refreshed TUMI amenity kits with Kiehl’s products, and an Alessi-designed collection of serviceware.
